Thanks to the countless configurations available, to their industrial robustness and great precision with which they’re built, the KBT horizontal single-shaft mixers are ideal for intensive heavy-duty production sites, or when cross-contamination and residue are a critical concern.
All KBT ploughshare horizontal single-shaft batch mixers are made up of a cylindrical mixing drum, with one or more inlets, one vent port, one or more outlets, a solid main shaft which rotates inside the drum to which special mixing tools are fixed in a special sequence. Two end plates close the drum at both ends. Each end plate has a main shaft support, complete with bearings and seals. A drive unit completes the mixer, guaranteeing the correct rotation speed of the main shaft.
KBT ploughshare horizontal single-shaft batch mixers can be made of carbon steel, wear-resistant steel and stainless steel (304 or 316).
The shaft is always solid, with both extremities worked to the utmost degree of precision and guaranteeing a perfect fit within the main shaft end supports.
The main shaft end supports hold the bearings and the sealing system to avoid any leakages from inside the mixing drum. According to the application for which the mixer is used, the sealing system will be different (from a simple packing system, to an air-purged system, to a greased system, to a combination of air-purging and greased system, to the more complex solutions with mechanical seals or those used for units working under negative pressure.
Mixing tools can be ploughs, with a very strong and vigorous penetrating action, or blade type, for a more gentle action on materials inside the mixing drum.
Inlets, generally round, can be made according to customer requirements, and according to the plant’s layout (various sizes and shapes possible).
The outlet, that spans the entire length of the mixing drum, has a 60° door and is completely flush with drum’s profile, avoiding any ‘dead’ mixing areas; depending on the application it can be operated by means of pneumatic cylinders or hydraulic cylinders. This sophisticated solution guarantees extremely low residue (<0.2% of geometrical mixing drum volume) and an extremely short discharge time.
All KBT ploughshare horizontal single-shaft batch mixers are equipped with one or more frontal inspection doors, to enable the operator to access the mixing drum for inspection/maintenance activities. All inspection doors are fitted with mechanical or electro-mechanical safety locks, with key, avoiding any accidental opening while the unit is running.
Every KBT ploughshare horizontal single-shaft batch mixer is supplied with an electrical drive unit specifically sized and configured according to the application. In case of simple configurations where low installed power is required a compact drive directly flanged to the end support is installed (gearbox and motor); for more complex installations where greater power is needed an independent, separate, self-supporting drive unit will be preferred, with a flexible pin coupling and a fluid coupling included in the kinematic chain.
