Production of isolating and flameproof foams
We were approached by an important international manufacturer of isolating and flameproof foams used for (mainly but no exclusively) submarine piping for offshore platforms. We were asked to produce a ploughshare mixer capable of handling 2000 litres per batch. The unit, built to handle a large number of different materials, both solid and liquid, needs to properly mix to a very high degree of homogeneity all ingredients in the shortest possible time. Along with the mixer we were asked to supply all controls, not only of the mixing unit but of all pumps used to feed materials into the mixing drum as well.
The mixer required a large number of different in-feed ports and vents, both for gravity fed ingredients and for pumped materials (liquids and solids) , twin electro-pneumatic outlets perfectly flush with the mixing drum (no dead zones), side refiners, an extra-large inspection door, a manual sampling port-hole on the mixer front, and an automatic high pressure mixing drum wash down system.
To meet all these requirements we supplied our model KB3SC02000DCD, with the following tailor-made configuration:
- Mixing drum and end plates in 316SS
- Solid main shaft in 316SS
- Blade-type mixing tools and scrapers in 316SS, welded to the main shaft
- 4 off. round, flanged inlet/vent ports, each equipped with a butterfly valve and cage/filtering sleeve
- 3 off. liquid ports
- 2 off. extra inlets (one on each end plate) for pumped solid materials
- 1 off. double (XL) frontal inspection door, with safety interlocking device
- 2 off. independent, electro-pneumatically operated outlets with trap-door perfectly flush with mixing drum
- 3 off. blade type side refiners (7.5 kW, 3000 rpm)
- high-grade polishing of all parts in contact with product (Ra ≤0.8μm)
- 3 off. automatic wash down systems for mixing drum, with high pressure, revolving and pneumatically retractible spray-nozzles
- 1 off. on-board pneumatic cabinet in 304SS for the distribution of compressed air to all appliances,
- 1 off. bevel, separate drive unit, with flexible pin coupling and 55 kW electric motor
- 1 off. on-board 304SS electric terminal box
- 1 off. electric control panel, complete with PLC, inverter, warning lights and buttons, colour high resolution Touchscreen, for the complete control of all mixer operations/functions, as well as all pumps for liquids and solids, as well as all intrinsic safety features in complete compliance with national and local norms and regulations currently in force.
