Mixing of minerals and molasses for cattle salt-licks
For a company part of a world-leading group in the animal feed industry, we manufactured a ploughshare mixer for minerals, used to produce the basic mix for cattle salt-licks.
The main ingredients (different kinds of minerals and salt) are mixed with small percentages of honey and molasses, as well as liquid flavours (oils).
The customer’s main requirement was to have a highly performing (albeit small) mixing system, that could be quickly, easily and thoroughly cleaned. Furthermore, the products need to be heated as they are being mixed: for this reason, we applied a temperature jacket on the mixing drum. To properly satisfy all customer needs we decided to produce a 304SS total bomb door unit, pneumatically actuated. To break down any lumps generated by the addition of liquids (honey, molasses, oils) we included a high-speed refiner in 304SS, with blade-type tools.
