Production of fertilisers from food waste

We were approached by a prestigious Export company to provide a mixer suitable to handle 20 m³/h of potato waste. The ‘back mixer’ needed to thoroughly mix dry and moist/wet materials with the aim to reduce the overall moisture of the final mixed product, before sending it on to the fluid bed drier. The plant layout and process is continuous.

The unit, a horizontal, continuous ploughshare mixer, required a large inlet, a vertical outlet and two inspection doors. Three side refiners (to speed up mixing operations and increase particle distribution) and a pneumatic sampling device complete the configuration.

To meet all customer requirements, we supplied our KC2PV03000ILD model, with the following specifications:

  • Mixing drum and end plates in 304SS, with bolted weir plate (to adjust drum filling ratio and retention time)
  • 304SS solid main shaft
  • 304SS bolted, adjustable ploughs and scrapers
  • 1 off. rectangular bespoke inlet, with flange, in 304SS
  • 1 off. rectangular bespoke outlet, with flange, in 304SS
  • 1 off. round vent port, with flange, in 304SS
  • 2 off. inspection doors, with safety door locks
  • all parts in contact with product lightly polished
  • 3 off. side refiners, with blade type tool, in 304SS
  • 1 off. pneumatic sampling device
  • in-line, separate drive unit, 45 kW e-motor, twin flexible pin coupling (for use with an inverter)
  • connecting frame (in painted mild steel) for drive/mixing drum
