BRAKE PAD PRODUCTION (AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY)

KB1PC01300BS

The Challenge

For an existing brake pad production line, we were requested to supply a batch mixer with a 1,400-litre working capacity. Part of an entire production line revamp, the new machine had to integrate seamlessly into the existing facility while working around current structural and building constraints. As the drive system and several accessories from the old mixer were still operational and performing well, the machine had to be supplied as a bare shaft unit, pre-engineered to accommodate the existing accessories.

In terms of throughput and performance, the mixer needs to process numerous highly precise and complex formulations of solid ingredients (powders and fibres) within very short cycle times, achieving an exceptionally high level of homogenisation. Because it handles abrasive products and requires product cooling as part of the process, the machine strictly required a highly robust, wear-resistant construction featuring an integrated temperature jacket.

The MC² Solution

  • Mixer model: KB1PC01300BS batch mixer
  • Mixing drum and end plates in heavy-thickness mild steel
  • Solid mild steel rotor shaft
  • Mixing Tools: adjustable, bolted ploughs and scrapers made of HB500 wear-resistant steel, with wear-resistant, welded face-hardening on tips
  • 3 off. flanged inlets built to custom drawings (1off. rectangular, 2 off. round)
  • 1 off. custom flanged round vent port, on the end plate
  • 1 off. round discharge outlet featuring a flush-fit trapdoor with electropneumatic actuation
  • 2 off. frontal inspection doors equipped with safety interlocks
  • 4 off. side refiners powered by 2-pole 5.5 kW electric motors
  • mild steel temperature jacket with custom fluid connections built to drawing
  • bare shaft unit, supplied without a drive system, engineered for existing, separate in-line drive with 55 kW motor and dual flexible coupling (inverter-driven operation)

Key Benefits

  • Ultra-fast mixing time for maximised productivity
  • Superior particle distribution of all ingredients
  • Maximum batch reliability and repeatability
  • High wear resistance
  • Perfect integration with existing plant
  • Outstanding ROI
