The Challenge

A leading international manufacturer of construction chemicals requested a ploughshare mixer capable of handling 3 tonnes of product per batch. The highly complex recipes, composed of numerous ingredients, demand an exceptionally high quality of homogenisation and additive dispersion.

Installed at the heart of the new production line, the unit had to be exceptionally high-performing and flexible. Due to plant layout requirements, three round discharge outlets were specified to feed different packaging lines downstream of the mixing process.

Furthermore, to accelerate cycle times even further and ensure excellent dispersion of micro-ingredients within the blend, high-speed side refiners were installed.

Given the highly abrasive nature of the ingredients, the use of wear-resistant materials was mandatory for the construction of the mixer.

The MC² Solution

  • Material of construction: extra high-thickness HB400 wear-resistant steel drum
  • Maximum working capacity: 2,165 litres
  • Solid mild steel rotor shaft, with air-purged seals
  • Mixing tools: adjustable, bolted ploughs and scrapers made of HB500 wear-resistant steel with face-hardening on tips
  • 6 off. flanged round inlets, custom-built
  • 1 off. flanged round vent port
  • 4 off. liquid ports
  • 3 off. flanged, round discharge outlet, with flush-fit trapdoor, with independent electropneumatic actuation
  • 2 off. inspection doors with interlocks
  • 1 off. pneumatic sampling device
  • Rev counter on driven side of main shaft
  • 1 off. pneumatic panel in mild steel for the distribution of compressed air
  • 1 off. mild steel junction box
  • Separate drive, in line, with dual flexible pin coupling (for VFD control), complete with a 75 kW electric motor.
