The Challenge

For a major manufacturing company in the packaging foams sector, we were commissioned to produce a ploughshare mixer/reactor. The process requirements demand a temperature-controlled product heating system. To dramatically reduce processing times and operational costs, the system strictly required the capability to operate under a deep vacuum of -0.8 Barg.

The MC² Solution

  • Mixer model: KBR2PC02000DCD batch mixer
  • Material of construction: all parts built in high thickness 304L stainless steel, reinforced to resist up to -0.9 Barg
  • Maximum working capacity: 2,160 litres
  • Solid 304L stainless steel rotor shaft, with special vacuum seals
  • Mixing tools: adjustable, bolted ploughs and scrapers made of 304L stainless steel
  • 1 off. flanged round inlet
  • 1 off. flanged round vent port
  • 1 off. flanged, round discharge outlet, with flush-fit trapdoor, with electropneumatic actuation
  • 1 off. inspection door with interlock
  • 2 off. liquid ports
  • Finishing of all parts in contact with product: satin polishing at a Ra ≤1.6μm
  • Temperature jacket for use with water/diathermal oil in 304L stainless steel, complete with PT100 temperature probe and full drum insulation
  • Separate drive, in right-angle layout, with flexible pin coupling, complete with a 55 kW electric motor
