The Challenge

We were approached by a client requiring a unit to process large volumes of food waste. The challenge was to supply a continuous mixer capable of handling highly inconsistent input materials at a required throughput of approximately 20 m³/h.

The mixer receives highly non-homogenous products with a high moisture content. Given the varying characteristics of the ingredients—consisting of heavily expired food items in the initial stages of decomposition—the unit must maintain operational flexibility regarding throughput and retention time, despite operating within a continuous plant layout.

The MC² Solution

  • Mixer model: KC1PF01200DD continuous mixer
  • Material of construction: all parts built in high thickness mild steel
  • Mild steel rotor shaft, with air-purged seals
  • Mixing tools: adjustable, bolted ploughs and scrapers made of HB450 wear-resistant steel
  • 1 off. flanged rectangular inlet, custom made
  • 1 off. flanged round vent port
  • 1 off. frontal discharge outlet, with continuous manual adjustment system (hand wheel)
  • 2 off. inspection doors with interlocks
  • 3 off. refiner flanges
  • 1 off. pneumatic panel for the distribution of compressed air to all appliances
  • Direct drive, right-angle layout, complete with an 18.5 kW electric motor
