The Challenge

A major group active in bioplastics research and development commissioned us to supply a complete mixing station for the pilot plant at their new R&D and production facility.

The double concentric, counter-rotating ribbon blender handles exceptionally large volumes of water and fibres and needs to be integrated into the pilot plant as a fully standalone, skid-mounted system.

The MC² Solution

  • Mixer model: RB3RC00800DCD batch ribbon blender
  • Maximum working capacity: 1,100 litres
  • Material of construction: 316L stainless steel U-trough and end plates
  • 316L stainless steel rotor shaft, with air-purged seals
  • Mixing tools: 4 concentric, counter-rotating ribbon flights in 316L stainless steel
  • 1 off. lateral hinged lid, custom-made, with bolted safety grid and interlock (for fork-lift loading operations)
  • 1 bolted lid with 2 off. custom made round flanged inlets
  • 2 off. flanged round discharge outlets, with ball valve, for pumping the liquid formulations after mixing operations
  • Temperature jacket for use with water, diathermal oil and/or steam, complete with full trough insulation
  • Finishing of parts in contact with the product: mirror polishing to a Ra ≤0.4 μm
  • Separate drive with flexible pin coupling, in right-angle layout, 22 kW electric motor
  • 1 off. on-board control panel, with PLC, main motor inverter, colour touchscreen, software to control all operations (main shaft, discharge doors) with programmable recipes and mixing times/offsets, integration with all safety devices, alarms, emergencies, in line with Industry 4.0 requirements
  • Supporting frame in 304L stainless steel, with adjustable feet
  • 304L stainless steel self-supporting stairway with landing platform to enable access to the lids and loading area, installed alongside the blender
