FLOUR BLENDS FOR THE FOOD INDUSTRY

KB2SC01700DD

The Challenge

For a prestigious client, a world leader in dry food products, we manufactured a flour paddle mixer to replace an old ribbon blender on a production line at one of their overseas facilities.

The products to be processed consist of various types of flour used to manufacture biscuits and bread premixes.

The client's primary requirement was to upgrade to a high-performance production system with an increased hourly throughput, while keeping the existing plant infrastructure interface with the mixer completely unaltered.

We therefore engineered a 'bespoke' 304L stainless steel mixer featuring lowered end plates and a modified central discharge outlet with electropneumatic actuation. To ensure superior and faster cleaning of the drum interior, we equipped the machine with paddle mixing tools welded directly to the rotor shaft, a full-length inspection door, and a high-grade internal drum surface finish.

The MC² Solution

  • Mixer model: KB2SC01700DD batch mixer
  • Material of construction: all parts built in high thickness 304L stainless steel
  • Maximum working capacity: 1,740 litres
  • Solid 304L stainless steel rotor shaft, with air-purged seals
  • Mixing tools: blades and scrapers made of 304L stainless steel directly welded to the main shaft
  • 1 off. flanged round inlet, custom made
  • 1 off. flanged round vent port
  • 1 off. round, flanged discharge outlet, with flush-fit trapdoor with electropneumatic actuation (fitted directly onto the mixing drum, since the end plates needed to be reduced in height, due to the installation constraints)
  • 1 off. extra-large inspection door with interlock
  • 3 off. side refiners with blade-type tools, 5.5 kW (1450 rpm) e-motor
  • 3 off. injection wands in 304L stainless steel, complete with spray nozzles
  • Finishing of all parts in contact with product: satin polishing with Ra ≤0.8μm
  • Direct drive, directly flanged to the unit’s end plate, complete with an 30 kW electric motor
  • All electric components with declaration of conformity to ATEX Zone 22
