The Challenge

We were contacted by a major international company specialising in the production of graphite-based formulations derived from graphene research and development. They requested the supply of three batch paddle mixers, each capable of processing at least 2,000 litres of product per batch. Destined for three production lines operating in parallel, the mixers handle highly unique materials in terms of density, particle size distribution, and rheology, across both liquid and solid phases. The client's objective is to perfectly homogenise all ingredients within the shortest possible cycle times while maintaining the highest standard of finished product quality, which is subject to frequent and highly stringent product validation protocols.

The machines must be integrated into a new facility where they will be installed mid-way between different factory levels, requiring the mixers to be flush-mounted or "recessed" directly into the floor.

The MC² Solution

  • Mixer model: KB2SC02000DD batch mixer
  • Material of construction: all parts built in high thickness 304L stainless steel
  • Maximum working capacity: 2,165 litres
  • Solid 304L stainless steel rotor shaft, with air-purged seals
  • Mixing tools: blades and scrapers made of 304L stainless steel directly welded to the main shaft
  • 2 off. flanged round inlets
  • 5 off. liquid ports, complete with spry nozzles
  • 1 off. flanged round vent port
  • 1 off. square, extra-large flanged discharge outlet, with flush-fit trapdoor with electropneumatic actuation
  • 2 off. inspection doors with interlocks on mixing drum top
  • Finishing of all parts in contact with product: satin polishing with Ra ≤0.5μm
  • Direct drive, directly flanged onto end plate, complete with a 30 kW electric motor
  • 1 off pneumatic cabinet for the distribution of compressed air to all devices and appliances
  • 1 off. 304L stainless steel junction box
  • 1 off. control panel, complete with PLC, touchscreen, main shaft motor inverter, software to control all operations (main shaft speed, refiner, discharge) and monitor all safety devices (interlocks, pneumatic cabinet).
