METALLURGICAL MOULDS PRODUCTION

KB4PC02000ILD

The Challenge

A company specialising in the production of metallurgical materials used for tool and die manufacturing commissioned us to supply a ploughshare mixer capable of handling up to 700 kg of product per batch. The recipes, composed of extremely hard, abrasive, irregular, and coarse ingredients, require an excellent quality of homogenisation within the shortest possible cycle times.

Installed at the heart of the facility, the unit had to be exceptionally high-performing and capable of resisting severe, high-grade wear. Due to plant layout requirements, two circular discharge outlets were requested to feed different packaging lines downstream of the mixing process.

Given the highly abrasive nature of the ingredients, the use of wear-resistant materials was mandatory for the construction of the mixer. Furthermore, due to an average bulk density exceeding 2.0 kg/dm³ and very poor material flowability, it was necessary to oversize the installed motor power.

The MC² Solution

  • Mixer model: KB4SC02000ILD batch mixer
  • Material of construction: mild steel with internal liner in bolted panels made of HB400 wear-resistant steel, individually replaceable
  • Maximum working capacity: 2,165 litres
  • Solid mild steel rotor shaft, with air-purged seals
  • Mixing tools: adjustable, bolted blades and scrapers made of HB500 wear-resistant steel with face-hardening on tips
  • 3 off. flanged round inlets, custom-built
  • 1 off. flanged round vent port
  • 4 off. liquid ports
  • 2 off. flanged, round discharge outlet, with flush-fit trapdoor, with independent electropneumatic actuation
  • 2 off. inspection doors with interlocks
  • Separate drive, in line, with dual flexible pin coupling (for VFD control), complete with a 90 kW electric motor.

Key Benefits

  • Outstanding homogenisation of all ingredients
  • Ultra-short cycle times
  • Guaranteed reliability and repeatability of lots
  • High resistance to severe abrasion
  • Excellent return on investment
